Burn Batch Job

End-to-end orchestrator for multi-disc optical archive jobs. Drives scan-source → plan-batches → per-disc (build-iso → burn-disc × copies → verify-disc on first copy). Pauses for media swaps.

When to use

• The headline workflow. Use when the user says "back up X to M-Disc" or "burn this folder across however many discs it takes".

Inputs to gather

• Source path (absolute). Required.
• Media type — m-disc-25 | bd-r-25 | bd-r-50 | dvd-dl-8.5 | dvd-4.7.
• Copy count per disc (1–5). Default 1.
• Device — auto-detect; allow override.
• Workspace — default ${CLAUDE_USER_DATA:-${XDG_DATA_HOME:-$HOME/.local/share}/claude-plugins}/batch-optical-archivist/jobs/$(date +%Y%m%d-%H%M).

Procedure

1. Preflight:
   • Verify user in cdrom group: groups | grep -q cdrom. If not, instruct sudo usermod -aG cdrom $USER && newgrp cdrom and abort.
   • Verify xorriso, growisofs, dvd+rw-mediainfo installed.
   • Resolve and create workspace.
2. Run scan-source against the source.
3. Run plan-batches with the chosen media type. Show the user the disc plan and total wall-clock estimate (sum per-disc burn time × copies + verify time). Ask for go-ahead once.
4. For each disc NN in the plan:
   • build-iso for the batch.
   • Prompt the user to insert blank disc 1 of N for batch NN. Wait for dvd+rw-mediainfo to report blank.
   • burn-disc with copy count from input. Between copies, prompt for swap.
   • On copy 1, after burn completes, run verify-disc. If verify fails, halt the job and surface the log.
   • After all copies of this batch are burned (and copy 1 verified), eject and prompt for the next batch's first blank.
5. After the final disc:
   • Write $WORKSPACE/job-summary.json (per-disc burn duration, verify result, copy count, ISO sha256).
   • Print a clean final summary.

Output / side effects

• All artefacts in $WORKSPACE/: manifest.json, plan.json, batches/, iso/, logs/, job-summary.json.
• N physical discs burned.

Safety / constraints

• Halt-on-first-failure for verify mismatches — do not silently continue.
• All long-running steps print a time estimate before starting.
• Never modify source files at any stage.
