cmux Tab Command

Open a new cmux terminal surface in the current workspace/pane and execute the command the user provided.

Workflow

1. Confirm the active CLI/socket when the user is worried about dev vs release targeting:

which cmux
cmux version
cmux identify --no-caller

2. Prefer the bundled helper so parsing and paste behavior stay consistent:

scripts/open-tab-run.sh -- <command>

3. For commands with shell operators, quote the full command:

scripts/open-tab-run.sh -- "pnpm test -- --runInBand"
scripts/open-tab-run.sh -- "printf 'hello '; date; pwd"

4. If no command arguments are passed, the helper reads the command from stdin:

Notes

• The helper uses whichever cmux is first on PATH, unless CMUX_BIN is set.
• It preserves the active cmux socket via the environment, so dev/debug builds keep targeting their matching socket.
• cmux new-surface prints status text such as OK surface:5 pane:2 workspace:1; parse out surface:n before sending commands.
• After triggering, use cmux read-screen --surface <surface:n> --lines <n> when proof is needed.
