| catalog_line | Write personal essays and posts from lived experience; make generic drafts specific and voiced. |
| description | Write creative nonfiction that shows a real mind at work on lived experience. Use when drafting a personal essay or blog post from the user's own experience, making a generic or aggregated-take draft less generic, developing voice, shaping hermit-crab or braided essays, or grounding an opinionated piece in contradiction and lived conviction. |

Nonfiction Writing From Lived Conviction
Identity
Use this skill to turn real experience, observation, or memory into creative nonfiction. The goal is not to report facts. The goal is to reveal a particular mind trying to make sense of the world. This is the antidote to generic content: write from what the speaker actually lived and believes, not from aggregated takes.
This is a strategy skill at domain altitude: it supplies the decision spine and craft heuristics for creative-nonfiction drafting, not a deterministic runbook. Its secondary flavor is procedure — a light drafting sequence lives in Procedure — but the weight is in Judgment.
Activation
- Draft a personal essay or reflective blog post
- Turn a mundane experience into a meaningful essay
- Develop voice, style, or essay form
- Write from memory without making the piece feel like a diary dump
- Shape an opinionated essay around contradiction or ambivalence
- Convert notes, transcripts, or life material into creative nonfiction
- A draft reads generic or AI-flavored and needs a real speaker behind it
Do not use this skill for objective research reports, SEO explainers, technical docs, or fictional short stories.
Judgment
Core mental model
Creative nonfiction is a constructed speaker thinking through real material. The writer on the page is not the full private person. It is a selected, sharpened persona built to carry the essay's inquiry.
The strongest material is often not the biggest event. It is the place where a small event exposes a contradiction, pressure, longing, embarrassment, belief, or change in the speaker.
Craft rules
- Treat "I" as a character with a job.
- Prefer specific scenes over generalized life lessons.
- Use research only when it deepens the speaker's encounter with reality.
- Let mundane subjects stay mundane; make the rendering interesting.
- Use voice as the hook.
- Do not explain every implication. Leave room for the reader to meet the mind at work.
Diagnostic prompts
- What ordinary thing keeps bothering the speaker?
- What does the speaker know now that they did not know then?
- What is the speaker embarrassed to admit?
- What contradiction makes this piece alive?
- What would be lost if the speaker were removed?
- What form would make the thinking stranger or more precise?
- What one scene can carry the whole inquiry?
