Hook Library
Extends the core hook-engine skill (6 hook types) with 20+ additional patterns proven for F&B and restaurant content. Hooks are the first 1–2 lines of any post — if they fail, nothing else matters.
When to Use
Load this skill whenever writing the opening line of any social post, video script, or caption. Use in combination with aida-engine or pas-engine for the full copy structure.
Hook Types
Curiosity Hooks
Trigger: when the dish has an unusual origin, technique, or ingredient.
| # | Pattern | Example |
|---|
| C1 | The secret ingredient | "The reason our dumplings taste different: we use pork from one specific farm in Iowa." |
| C2 | The counterintuitive fact | "The best char siu isn't sweet. Here's why." |
| C3 | The hidden story | "This dish was almost taken off the menu. Then something happened." |
| C4 | The unspoken truth | "Every Chinese restaurant has this on their menu. Almost none make it correctly." |
Identity Hooks
Trigger: when targeting a specific community or occasion.
| # | Pattern | Example |
|---|
| I1 | The insider signal | "If you grew up eating congee for breakfast, you already know." |
| I2 | The shared experience (EN) | "Moving to a new city means finding a new 'your restaurant.'" |
| I3 | 身份认同 (ZH) | "身在海外,这一口才是真正的家乡味。" |
| I4 | The generational bridge | "My grandmother's recipe. My kitchen. Your delivery order." |
Sensory Hooks
Trigger: when the dish has strong visual, aural, or taste qualities.
| # | Pattern | Example |
|---|
| S1 | Sound first | "That sound when the hot oil hits the dry chili. You know the one." |
| S2 | Texture lead | "Crispy outside. Molten inside. The contrast you've been craving." |
| S3 | Smell memory | "There's a smell that takes you somewhere before you even take a bite." |
| S4 | 感官中文 (ZH) | "那一声"滋——",就够了。" |
Urgency / Scarcity Hooks
Trigger: limited-time dishes, weekend specials, high-demand items.
| # | Pattern | Example |
|---|
| U1 | The honest countdown | "We make 40 portions of this every Friday. They're usually gone by 7pm." |
| U2 | The calendar moment | "One weekend a year. This is the weekend." |
| U3 | The soft FOMO | "Last week people waited 45 minutes for this. Now you can just tap." |
Social Proof Hooks
Trigger: high-rated dishes, repeat orders, media mentions.
| # | Pattern | Example |
|---|
| P1 | The number | "Over 2,000 five-star reviews mention one dish specifically." |
| P2 | The quote | '"I drove 40 minutes for this and I'd do it again." — actual customer review' |
| P3 | The community fact | "Our most reordered dish, 3 months running. There's a reason." |
Challenge / Contrarian Hooks
Trigger: when the brand wants to stand out or challenge a perception.
| # | Pattern | Example |
|---|
| X1 | The unpopular opinion | "Chinese takeout doesn't have to be greasy. We'll prove it." |
| X2 | The myth-bust | "Fortune cookies aren't Chinese. But our dumplings absolutely are." |
| X3 | The dare | "Name a better Friday night than this. We'll wait." |
Hook Selection Matrix
| Platform | Best Hook Types | Avoid |
|---|
| Instagram feed | S1–S4, C1–C4 | U1–U3 (too salesy for feed) |
| Instagram Stories | U1–U3, P1–P3 | Long curiosity hooks |
| TikTok (video script) | S1, S4, X3 | Identity hooks (too niche for cold TikTok) |
| Facebook | I1–I4, P1–P3 | Contrarian (FB audience skews warmer) |
| 小红书 | I3, S4, I4 | English patterns — always ZH |
| Google Maps posts | P1–P3 | All emotional hooks — keep factual |
Notes
- Never stack more than 2 hook types in one opening — pick the strongest one
- ZH hooks marked (ZH) are written for Chinese-first platforms (小红书, WeChat)
- For TikTok video scripts, the hook must work as SPOKEN words — read it aloud first
- Hooks C3 and I4 work best when the brand has a genuine story to back them up
