Portfolio Monitoring — yfinance + Discord

Scope

Build and run a self-contained portfolio monitoring system that:

• Reads real-time prices via yfinance (no broker API needed)
• Calculates P&L (requires user-provided quantity + average buy price)
• Computes RSI-14 and proximity to 1-month high/low
• Generates buy/hold/sell signals based on RSI thresholds
• Posts reports to a Discord webhook (or local fallback)
• Runs on a cron schedule (e.g. daily after US market close)

User Preference — Visual Discord Reports

This user wants graphical, well-formatted Discord reports — not plain text. Always:

• Generate a matplotlib bar chart (dark theme, green/red bars) showing daily % change for each position
• Send a Discord embed with color-coded fields (green for positive, red for negative)
• Split into two separate webhook POSTs: embed first, chart image second (Discord multipart upload with payload_json+attachment is fragile and often returns 400)

Plain text in Discord is rejected by this user ("le formatage du message sur discord est moche").

Key Pitfalls

1. Trade Republic unofficial APIs are unreliable.
   • trade_republic PyPI v0.1.1: the web auth endpoint POST /api/v1/auth/web/login returns HTTP 405 — the endpoint changed and the library is unmaintained.
   • trade-republic-api PyPI v0.0.1: a stub package with no real functionality.
   • Fallback: use yfinance for price data; the user provides their portfolio composition manually.
2. Discord webhook 403. A 403 Forbidden on a webhook POST means the webhook URL was deleted, the channel permissions changed, or the webhook expired. Test with curl -X POST -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"content":"test"}' <url> first.
3. yfinance ticker changes. Some tickers change format or delist — test with yf.Ticker(x).history(period="5d") before adding to the config. Known: IUSN.L (iShares World Small Cap) is now WSML.L.
4. Security blocks on credentials. The Hermes terminal security system blocks commands containing phone numbers, PINs, or financial credentials. Extract API tokens or session cookies in separate scripts, never inline in terminal commands.
5. Discord message length limit. Messages over 2000 characters are rejected. Chunk the report into 1900-char segments.
6. yfinance rate limiting. Fetching 15+ tickers can hit Yahoo rate limits. Use individual Ticker objects rather than yf.download() for graceful per-ticker failure.

Signal thresholds (RSI-14):

• RSI < 30 → 🟢 SURVENTE (buy signal)
• RSI 30–40 → 🟡 Proche survente
• RSI 40–60 → ⚪ Neutre
• RSI 60–70 → 🟠 Proche surachat
• RSI > 70 → 🔴 SURACHAT (sell/wait signal)

To deliver to Discord instead of local, configure the webhook inside the script (the send_discord() function) — the cron job's deliver field only controls Hermes platform delivery.

1. Run the script manually: python3 monitor.py
2. Check that yfinance returns data for every ticker
3. Verify the Discord webhook responds with HTTP 204
4. Check cron output: hermes cron list → view the job's last output
