| description | Use when designing advancement systems, factions, resource economies, and consequence chains for strategic fantasy or occult mystery serials where every gain creates political, personal, or metaphysical pressure. |
Faction Power Consequence Engine
Use this skill when the story needs a power structure that produces strategy instead of empty spectacle.
Quick Start
- Use this for cultivation ladders, occult pathways, ritual systems, relic economies, sect politics, church politics, guild politics, and hidden organizations.
- Pair with
$strategic-cast-intelligence-engine when the question is how smart actors exploit the system.
- Pair with
$strategic-webserial-architecture when the system needs to feed reveals and long-arc escalation.
Operating Loop
- Define the currencies of power: knowledge, resources, status, rituals, artifacts, bodies, time, reputation, or taboo access.
- Define advancement gates and their costs. Every stage should demand sacrifice, risk, or dependency.
- Define how organizations control access, information, legitimacy, or punishment.
- Identify exploit space. Smart characters should be able to bend the system without breaking its logic.
- Map second-order consequences: social suspicion, corruption, madness, debt, surveillance, enemies, and opportunity cost.
- Make every power gain change future strategy instead of only increasing battle output.
- Check who benefits if the system stays as it is, and who would destabilize it.

What the system wants from the protagonist:
Short-term gains:
Long-term traps:

Pressure Heuristics
- If advancement has no lasting cost, it will flatten suspense.
- If factions do not control something scarce, they will feel decorative.
- If every stage only means "bigger attack," the system is under-designed.
- If the protagonist can win without exposing new risk, the economy is too forgiving.
Rules
- Do not solve tension by inventing a new tier too early.
- Do not make organizations omniscient unless that surveillance itself has a mechanism and a price.
- Do not hide all system logic. The reader should understand enough to anticipate danger.
- Prefer power with side effects over power with flavor text.
- Use original mechanics and institutions rather than reskinning famous systems from existing webnovels.
