Filing Preparation
A filing is judged on form as much as substance, and the form requirements are
external, specific, and unforgiving.
When to use
- Anything is going to a court, registry, regulator or authority.
- A response is due under a rule with a stated window.
Steps
- Confirm the deadline on the
deadlines ledger, with its source. If the
date is not there, put it there before doing anything else.
- Read the actual form requirements for this forum — length, format,
exhibits, service, signature, fee. Not what the last filing did; forums
change their rules and the last filing may have been to a different one.
- Check every factual assertion against the document it comes from. A
citation to the record that does not support the sentence is the failure that
costs the client credibility with the one audience that matters.
- Assemble the exhibits in the order the document refers to them, each one
actually attached.
- Run the substance past compliance if the filing asserts anything about
regulated conduct.
- Park it. Record the matter row, and hand the filing to the operator with
the deadline, the forum, and what still needs a signature.
Output
A filing-ready document with its exhibits, a statement of the deadline and
forum, and an explicit list of what a licensed human must check before it is
signed. This roster does not file.
