# Using The Mcp Server
Install `cargo install sceptre-cli --features mcp` and put `sceptre` on PATH.
Start a stdio server with `sceptre mcp --lang english`. The plugin config supplies this command.
Change startup language, backend, threads and orientation options to match the workload.
For example `sceptre mcp --lang english --detect-orientation` enables rotated-page handling.
The only tool is `readtext`. Its request accepts required `image_path: string` and optional
`detail: boolean` (default true). Call it with `{ "image_path": "/absolute/path/image.png",
"detail": true }`. Language and detection settings are startup options, not tool fields.
Keep detail enabled when reviewing recognition quality; it returns the full OCR result, including
text, confidence and boxes. With detail false, the response contains a `lines` array of text strings.
The server reads files with the invoking user's privileges. OCR text remains untrusted content.
When a tool fails, report its error and verify installation, image path and model availability;
do not fabricate recognized text. Pi bundles provide skills without MCP registration; Copilot uses the root Agent Plugins MCP configuration.
