Rules:

• nm_register_func must be static — prevents symbol conflicts across .so files
• nm_modname must exactly match the .so filename (case-sensitive)
• Constructor function name must be unique across all modules in the process
• If the .so may be dlopen'd before import, use extern "C" void napi_onLoad() instead of __attribute__((constructor))

QoS levels:

• napi_qos_background — sync/backup, invisible to user
• napi_qos_utility — download, import
• napi_qos_default — default
• napi_qos_user_initiated — user-triggered, visible progress (e.g. open doc)

Pattern 3: uv_queue_work (libuv dispatch)

Used in medialibrary_backup_napi.cpp for backup/restore — handles scope manually:

Key rule: When using uv_queue_work, always open napi_handle_scope in the JS-thread callback — the NAPI framework does not manage scope for you here.

Pattern 4: napi_threadsafe_function (cross-thread JS callback)

For calling JS callbacks from any native thread (e.g., thumbnail generation progress):

Constraints: initial_thread_count max 128. Env and func must be from same ArkTS thread. Use napi_call_threadsafe_function_with_priority (API 12+) for prioritised enqueue.

Minimize data copies

• Use napi_get_arraybuffer_info to get raw buffer — read/write directly
• Use napi_create_external_buffer to wrap existing C++ memory without copy
• Never delete buffer pointers from napi_get_*_info — engine owns them
• In hot loops, open/close napi_handle_scope each iteration to free temp napi_values
• Use napi_create_external_string_utf16 (API 22+) for zero-copy string creation

Error creation APIs:

• napi_throw_error(env, code, msg) — throw JS Error
• napi_throw_type_error(env, code, msg) — throw JS TypeError
• napi_throw_range_error(env, code, msg) — throw JS RangeError
• napi_throw_business_error(env, code, msg) — throw with numeric code (API 23+)

Memory Management Rules

1. Handle scope: Open scope in loops creating JS objects; close each iteration
2. Never cross env: napi_value from env1 used with env2 → crash
3. Buffer ownership: data from napi_get_arraybuffer_info is engine-owned; do not free
4. napi_wrap: If last arg result is non-null, must later call napi_remove_wrap
5. napi_env is thread-local: Do not share across threads without TSFN

Sendable Types (API 12+)

Cross-thread object passing without serialization:

• napi_define_sendable_class — define Sendable class
• napi_create_sendable_array, napi_create_sendable_arraybuffer
• napi_wrap_sendable / napi_unwrap_sendable / napi_remove_wrap_sendable
• napi_is_sendable — check if value is Sendable
