| description | Analyze a business process to clarify goals, actors, rules, data, bottlenecks, exceptions, and opportunities for better system support. |
Process Analysis
Use when a workflow or business need must be understood before product or technical changes are designed.
Procedure
- Define the business outcome and process boundary.
- Identify actors, triggers, inputs, decisions, systems, outputs, and exception paths.
- Map the current process from start to finish using observed behavior and source material rather than policy assumptions alone.
- Separate business rules from accidental implementation constraints.
- Quantify pain where possible: delay, rework, error, volume, cost, or risk.
- Identify gaps between current and desired outcomes.
- Produce clear requirements or decision points for Product Manager and Requirements Analyst.
Quality gate
The analysis should explain why the process exists and where value or failure occurs, not merely redraw the current UI or system steps.
