| description | Build an environment or scene from narrative/gameplay goals through composition, modular planning, assets, materials, lighting, optimization, and in-engine validation. |
Environment Production
Use for game/world scenes, architectural spaces, environmental storytelling, and large 3D compositions.
Procedure
- Define gameplay/narrative purpose, player routes, focal points, scale, camera, and performance budget.
- Gather references and block out composition and traversal before detailed asset work.
- Identify reusable modular pieces and hero assets.
- Develop materials, set dressing, landmarks, and environmental storytelling around the intended experience.
- Establish lighting and atmosphere that support readability as well as mood.
- Optimize visibility, geometry, texture, LOD, collision, and draw cost for the target runtime.
- Validate in-engine from actual player/camera viewpoints and iterate on navigation/readability.
Quality gate
The environment must work as a space, not just as a rendered image.
