# learning-toolkit
A Claude Code plugin for guided learning through code. Instead of just giving you answers, it teaches you through questioning, challenges, and targeted hints.
## Skills
### `learn`
A unified learning skill with four modes. Auto-triggers when you ask to understand something, or invoke directly with `/learn`.
**Modes:**
- **Socratic** — Probing questions one at a time, rated 1-5, with brief explanations. Waits for you to say "move on" before advancing. Best when you have partial understanding and need depth.
- **Chunking** — Breaks overwhelming topics into a bulleted concept list from foundational to advanced. Picks a concept, gives you an implementation challenge. Best when there's too much to take in at once.
- **Gap Analysis** — Asks 3-5 diagnostic questions to map what you know vs. don't know, then produces specific knowledge gaps tied to the actual code with targeted exercises. Best when you're stuck and don't know why.
- **Syntax Hints** — One brief syntax example at a time. No explanations unless asked. Progressively more specific if you're still stuck. Best when you know the concept but forgot the syntax.
**Session preference:** On first trigger, asks whether you want guided learning or direct explanations. Remembers your choice but lets you switch anytime ("just tell me" / "teach me").
**Understanding score:** Available on demand — rates your comprehension X/10 with strengths, gaps, and next steps.
### `prompt-check`
Evaluates prompt quality and coaches toward better prompting. Auto-triggers on desperation signals (vague questions, rapid rephrasing, "why isn't this working").
**Desperation scale (1-10):**
| Level | What it means |
|-------|--------------|
| 1-3 | You're in control. Light touch — brief acknowledgment, then answers normally. |
| 4-6 | Drifting. Diagnoses what's wrong, suggests a rewrite, brief coaching. |
| 7-9 | At the mercy of the LLM. Full diagnosis, rewrite, coaching to reframe. |
| 10 | Full desperation. Backs up, helps figure out what you actually need. |
At high desperation, may suggest switching to `learning-toolkit:learn` if the root cause is a knowledge gap.
