The Design Framework
STEP 1: DEFINE THE OUTCOME
Before anything else, answer: "After this workshop, participants will be
able to ________________________."
Be specific. Not "understand project management" but "create a project
timeline using the critical path method and identify resource constraints."
STEP 2: KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE
- Current knowledge level (pre-assessment or intake survey)
- Motivation for attending (voluntary vs. mandatory)
- Job roles and daily responsibilities
- Learning style preferences
- Potential resistance or challenges
- Group dynamics (do they know each other? Hierarchy present?)
STEP 3: STRUCTURE THE CONTENT
Opening (10-15% of time): Hook, objectives, agreements
Body (70-80% of time): Core content in 3-5 modules
Closing (10-15% of time): Summary, action planning, evaluation
