# Weather + Location microservices over gRPC — two ways Same objective, built twice so the workflows can be compared. | Folder | Approach | What drives the code | |---|---|---| | [`speckit-approach/`](speckit-approach/) | Spec-driven (GitHub Spec Kit layout + Claude/Spring AI skills + security hooks) | constitution → spec → architecture → plan → tasks → code | | [`vibe-approach/`](vibe-approach/) | "Vibe coding": one brief, no specs, no skills, no hooks | the brief in [`docs/00-objective.md`](docs/00-objective.md) | ## The objective (shared) Two Spring Boot microservices, both backed by **free, key-less** APIs from [Open-Meteo](https://open-meteo.com): * **location-service** – wraps the Open-Meteo *Geocoding* API. Exposes **gRPC** only. * **weather-service** – wraps the Open-Meteo *Forecast* API. Exposes a **secured REST API** and calls location-service over **gRPC** to turn a city name into coordinates. * Security: OAuth 2.0 + OpenID Connect (Keycloak as IdP), JWT resource servers, deny-by-default. ``` Client ──HTTPS+Bearer JWT──▶ weather-service ──gRPC+Bearer JWT──▶ location-service │ │ ▼ ▼ api.open-meteo.com geocoding-api.open-meteo.com ``` ## Reading order for the spec-driven track 1. `speckit-approach/.specify/memory/constitution.md` – non-negotiable rules 2. `speckit-approach/specs/001-weather-by-city/spec.md` – WHAT and WHY 3. `.../architecture.md` – structure, flows, trust boundaries 4. `.../security.md` – strict web-API / OAuth2 / OIDC rules (testable IDs `SEC-nnn`) 5. `.../plan.md`, `.../phases.md`, `.../tasks.md` – HOW, in gated phases 6. `speckit-approach/.claude/` – skills, hooks (security guardrails), settings ## Prerequisites JDK 21+ (tested on 25), Maven 3.9+, Docker (only for Keycloak / compose). Free APIs need internet; tests do **not** (they stub Open-Meteo). See [`docs/COMPARISON.md`](docs/COMPARISON.md) for the side-by-side result.
