Ask yourself and your co-founders: "If I could magically wave a wand and start a brand-new company today with my current team and capital, would I start this company?"

• If No: You are in a state of "indentured servitude" to your past self. A pivot or shutdown is mandatory.

The "Flat Hockey Stick" Audit

Review your business plan from 6–12 months ago.

Common Pitfalls

• Confusing Strategy with Vision: A pivot is a change in strategy (how you get there), not a change in vision (why you exist). If you change the "why" every six months, you aren't pivoting; you're drifting.
• Ego Identification: Treating the company's failure as a personal death. You must dis-identify with the entity to make the rational decision to kill it or change it.
