Common failure modes

• Treating "covered in the pacing guide" as equivalent to "taught at tested complexity" — confusing time coverage with DOK alignment.
• Running PD as generic professional-growth days disconnected from one named practice change, then treating a lack of walkthrough movement as a mystery.

A naive read stops at day-reallocation: shift days from Ratios and Expressions into Geometry and Statistics until the percentages match. The DOK audit changes the fix. Of the 38 standards, 14 are tagged DOK 3 in the item specifications. Cross-checking the pacing guide's listed activities against those 14 finds only 6 have a genuine DOK-3 task on file (a multi-step application or non-routine problem); the other 8 — including 3 of the Geometry standards — are taught exclusively with DOK-1/2 worksheet and skill-drill activities. DOK-alignment rate: 6/14 ≈ 43%. Adding Geometry instructional days without changing the DOK of the Geometry activities would increase time-on-domain without closing the actual gap driving the score.

Recommendation memo to the principal:

Reallocate 3 instructional days from Ratios (20→17) and 1 from Expressions & Equations (25→24) into Geometry (12→15) and Statistics & Probability (8→9).
