Photo / Estimate Alignment Review

Purpose

Review visible damage in photos against the documented estimate and repair file.

Core objective

Identify whether the visible damage:

• aligns with the documented estimate scope
• supports additional related operations within the same damage area
• appears outside the documented loss area and should be treated as unrelated prior damage (UPD) unless clearly tied to the current loss

Use this for

• estimate review
• supplement review
• photo review
• line-by-line support review
• side-by-side comparison review
• rebuttal/export wording that references damage visible in photos

Do not use this for

• broad structural conclusions from photos alone
• creating new damage scope from guesswork
• treating unrelated visible damage as part of the current loss without support
• legal conclusions
• retrieval or route-handler changes

Review order

1. Identify the documented point of impact and repair area from the estimate.
2. Compare the photos to the documented area of damage.
3. Separate observations into:
   • clearly aligned with the documented loss
   • plausibly related but needing more support
   • outside the documented loss area and likely UPD
4. Only support added operations when they logically connect to the visible loss area, teardown, estimate notes, OEM procedure, or documented verification needs.
5. If support is mixed, say so.

Rules

• The estimate remains the primary frame for what damage is in scope.
• Photos may support the estimate, clarify the likely repair path, or reveal supportable adjacent operations.
• Do not invent hidden damage from photos alone.
• Do not turn a localized hit into a broad structural claim without measurements, teardown support, or OEM procedure relevance.
• Do not convert unrelated visible damage into current-loss damage.
• If other visible damage appears outside the documented area, treat it as unrelated prior damage (UPD) unless the file clearly connects it to the current event.
• If the estimate scope and photo damage do not line up cleanly, say that directly and neutrally.
• Keep the tone open-minded and evidence-led.

• "This photo supports additional work within the same damage zone."
• "This condition may be related, but the current file does not clearly tie it to the loss."
• "This appears outside the documented impact area and may reflect unrelated prior damage (UPD)."
• "The current photos support a localized repair story more than a broader structural one."
• "The file supports some adjacent operations, but not an unlimited scope expansion."

Avoid

• "Clearly frame damage everywhere"
• "Obvious structural damage" unless actually supported
• "Everything visible is related"
• verdict-first language that outruns the documentation

Success criteria

• Damage review stays tied to the estimate
• Related damage is separated from likely UPD
• Photo-based conclusions stay cautious and supportable
• Outputs remain trustworthy to all sides
