Constraints & Gotchas
- Authn ≠ authz: logged-in users still need per-object checks; missing
owner_id/can() = CRITICAL.
- Secret scanners miss renamed env files (
.env.local, secrets.yaml, *.pem in fixtures).
- Logging auth headers, tokens, or PII creates a second breach channel—treat as HIGH.
- CVE noise: upgrade only when the vulnerable symbol is on a reachable path; panic bumps break builds without reducing risk.
- Security headers / WAF rules do not fix injection inside handlers or ORMs.
- SSRF and open-redirect often hide behind “URL from user” helpers—trace egress.
- Do not use outside Security engineering (route via
/cat-security or /opgrok).
Anti-patterns
- Writing exploit PoCs, fuzz payloads-as-weapons, or attack runbooks
- Disabling authz, CSRF, or TLS “to unblock the feature”
- Pasting live secrets into tickets/chats as “temporary”
- Rubber-stamping
