Quality & upgrades
How upgrades work
Each tracked item has a quality profile with a cutoff. Sonarr/Radarr keep
upgrading the file until it reaches the cutoff. "Cutoff unmet" = has a file, but below
the target — these are your upgrade candidates.
Find upgrade candidates
- TV:
sonarr_cutoff_unmet → episodeIds below cutoff.
- Movie:
radarr_cutoff_unmet → movieIds below cutoff.
To upgrade a specific title to a higher quality
- Check its current quality with
*_search_library / list episodes.
- If the desired quality (e.g. 2160p) isn't allowed by its current profile, the right
fix is to put the item on a profile that includes it:
- List profiles with
*_list_profiles_and_folders and pick one whose name implies
the target (e.g. "Ultra-HD", "4K"). MCPArr changes quality by profile, not by
re-adding the item.
- (Changing an item's profile is a library-edit; if no suitable tool path exists in
the current version, tell the user which profile to set in the UI.)
- Run the interactive search (
*_search_releases) and grab a release at the desired
quality, following the interactive-release-search skill. The profile must allow
that quality or the release will be rejected.
Watch-outs
- 4K REMUX files are huge — check
sizeGB and free disk (*_health) first.
- Upgrading a whole library at once can saturate indexers/disk. Do it in batches and
confirm scope with the user.
- A higher
customFormatScore release is the better upgrade even at equal resolution.
