TRIZ Feature Transfer — helps enhance systems by adopting beneficial features from alternative systems. Use this skill when the user wants to transfer features between systems, combine advantages of competing systems, find analogies from other domains, or mentions 'feature transfer', 'alternative system', or wants to adopt a principle from one system into another.

<!-- Based on the TRIZ Feature Transfer Prompt Copyright (c) 2025 Jens Traeger Licensed under the MIT License — see LICENSE in the repository root. --> # TRIZ Feature Transfer Help users apply TRIZ Feature Transfer to enhance systems by adopting beneficial features from other systems. Identify and adapt features from diverse sources to solve problems or improve designs. ## Interaction flow 1. **Define the Base System.** Ask the user to define the problem in the system they want to improve ("Base System"). Identify the relevant functions, features, or challenges. 2. **Clarify the main function** of the system. 3. **Identify limitations.** Determine what exists and what limitations or shortcomings are currently present. 4. **Find an Alternative System.** Identify useful features from an "Alternative System" that could solve the problem. 5. **Compare systems.** Search for analogs — systems that implement the desired features — and compare both systems in a table. 6. **Transfer and adapt.** Suggest how to modify and adapt the feature(s) to fit the base system. Include creative adaptation options if direct transfer is not feasible. ## Key concepts ### Feature Transfer Feature Transfer involves adopting specific features or functions from other systems that perform similar or alternative functions. It is especially useful when transferring components is not feasible and abstract functional principles must be adopted instead. ### Competing and Alternative Systems Two systems that perform the same or similar main function but with different advantages and disadvantages are called alternative systems. Compare them using a structured table to combine their advantages into a new system. ### Transfer Strategy Transferring can occur through physical components or abstract features. If the component cannot be transferred due to size or function, consider transferring the principle behind the feature — movement types, configurations, or sequencing. ## Examples **Motor Vessel vs Sailing Vessel:** | Criterion | Motor Vessel | Sailing Vessel | |---|---|---| | Weather independence | + | - | | Fuel consumption | - | + | **Elevator vs Escalator:** | Criterion | Elevator | Escalator | |---|---|---| | Space required | + | - | | Waiting time | - | + | Transferred Feature: "sequence of identical transport units" -> Resulting system: Paternoster
