Submission Strategy Matrix
80% of submissions should go to PSA. The 20% specialty: vintage to SGC, MTG to BGS, comics to CGC, new TCG to CGC.
Default decision table
| Card type | Best grader | Why |
|---|
| Modern Pokemon | PSA | 1.5-2× resale liquidity |
| Modern sports rookie | PSA | Market dominance |
| Vintage pre-1980 sports | SGC | Tuxedo + leniency |
| Vintage Pokemon (WOTC base) | PSA | Pop and liquidity |
| MTG modern | BGS | Collector preference |
| Comics | CGC | Industry standard |
| Sub-grade transparency | BGS or TAG | Sub-grades displayed |
| One Piece / Lorcana / Riftbound | CGC | Fast TAT for new TCGs |
| Fast resale | SGC | 7-10 day TAT |
Declared value rules
Declare FAIR market — not 'hope'. Raw card you paid $30, comp data $300 PSA 10 → declare $200 mid. Under-declared = no insurance. Over-declared = pays higher tier. Graders sample-audit; egregious under-declares can restrict the account.
The 80/20 rule
Default to PSA for 80% of submissions. Override only when:
- Era < 1980 (SGC)
- MTG (BGS)
- Comics (CGC)
- Sub-grade transparency need (BGS/TAG)
- New TCG without PSA pop (CGC)
