STEP 3 — Classify or Stratify
Classify site health:
- Healthy – no skin changes, good rotation, proper hygiene.
- Needs reinforcement – mild erythema or irritation resolving, suboptimal rotation, or inconsistent hygiene/calibration.
- Needs intervention – moderate/severe skin reaction, infection, lipohypertrophy, or persistent pain requiring site change.
STEP 4 — Decide
- Healthy: reinforce current site rotation and hygiene plan; continue CGM use with routine SMBG calibration.
- Needs reinforcement: provide brief education on proper skin preparation, rotation (e.g., rotate at least 2 cm from prior site, avoid scar tissue), and hygiene; verify SMBG calibration technique.
- Needs intervention: treat any skin issue per standard care, discontinue use of affected site, select a new insertion site, and educate on prevention before resuming CGM.
