Noveltreat Pre-filled Pen — Storage and Handling
Applies to Noveltreat® Semaglutide Injection Pen strengths 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2.4 mg (single-use pre-filled pen).
Before First Use
- Refrigerate at 2–8 °C in the original carton.
- Do not freeze.
- Do not use if the pen is expired, damaged, or the solution is not clear.
- Keep the cap on until ready to inject.
After First Use
- Single-use pen — do not reuse.
- The needle is hidden and the pen auto-locks after use (built-in safety).
Out-of-Fridge (pre-use) Stability
- Once the cap has been removed (or the pen is taken from the fridge for use), the pen may be kept unrefrigerated for up to 28 days at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C.
In-Use Stability
- Discard the pen if it has been out of the refrigerator for > 28 days.
Environmental Restrictions
| Exposure | Rule |
|---|
| Light | Keep in the original carton; protect from light |
| Heat | Keep away from heat; do not leave in a hot car |
| Freezing | Do not freeze; do not use if frozen |
| Physical | Do not expose to liquid; do not drop the pen |
Disposal
- Dispose of used pens per the doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- Use a puncture-resistant container (heavy-duty plastic or equivalent, with a tight-fitting, puncture-resistant lid; upright, stable, leak-resistant, and clearly labelled as hazardous biomedical waste).
- Do not recycle the pen.
- Do not reuse the pen.
- The pen cap and empty carton may be disposed of in household waste.
- Follow local biomedical-waste regulations.
Patient Counseling Points
- Store the unopened pen in the fridge; take it out when you are ready to inject.
- You do not have to wait for the pen to warm to room temperature — but you can, if cold injection is uncomfortable.
- Mark the first-use date on the carton so you know when 28 days are up.
- If the pen has been frozen — even if it now looks normal — throw it away.
- Keep the pen and used sharps container out of reach of children.
Quick Decision Rules
- Pen in the fridge, unopened, not expired → use.
- Pen out of fridge ≤ 28 days, cap kept on, ≤ 30 °C → use.
- Pen out of fridge > 28 days → discard.
- Pen frozen at any point → discard.
- Pen dropped or cloudy / discoloured → discard.
