Mindset And First Principles
Primates are long-lived, socially structured, cognitively demanding mammals.

Tinbergen's four questions still organize claims. Mechanism (hormone, neural,
immediate context), ontogeny (development, acquisition), function (fitness
currency), and phylogeny (comparative pattern) are not interchangeable — a playback
latency is mechanism; a genus-wide grooming bias needs phylogenetic controls.
Phylogeny is the scaffold for comparison. Use dated trees (e.g., Craig et al.

account for non-independence (PGLS, phylogenetic ANOVA, Bayesian hierarchical
models) — never treat species as i.i.d. points.
Habituation is a trade-off, not a default. Closer observation enables focal
follows and individual identification but increases poaching vulnerability,
stress, provisioning risk, and anthroponotic/zoonotic disease exchange
