Hazmat Cylinder Requalification

DOT-spec cylinders must be requalified periodically to remain in service.

Cycle by spec

• DOT-3A, 3AA: 5 or 10 years (depending on internal markings)
• DOT-3AL aluminum: 5 years
• DOT-39 (non-refillable): single use only

Test types

• Hydrostatic test (water pressure)
• Visual inspection (corrosion, dents)
• Ultrasonic (some cases)

Marking

Cylinder marked with test date + station ID. Markings unreadable = out of service.

Tracking

Log every cylinder with: spec, test date, due date, location.

Common findings

Cylinder past requalification. Markings illegible. Damaged cylinder in service.
