/open-pr

Open a PR (GitHub) or MR (GitLab) for the current branch.

Steps

1. Detect host: git remote -v.
   • GitLab → use glab mr create. Speak in "merge request" terms.
   • GitHub → use gh pr create. Speak in "pull request" terms.
2. Understand the whole change (not just the last commit): git status, the diff against the base branch (git diff <base>...HEAD), and git log <base>..HEAD. Check whether the branch tracks a remote and is pushed.
3. Push the branch with -u if it isn't tracked yet.
4. Create the PR/MR with a title and a body containing a ## Summary (1–3 bullets) and, if relevant, a ## Test plan. Use a heredoc for the body to preserve formatting.
5. Return the URL so the user can open it.

Guardrails

• Never force-push. Confirm the base branch if it's ambiguous.
• Don't include secrets or large generated files in the diff; flag them if present.
