# Product discovery Clarify the decision the user needs to make. For an existing brief, work from it rather than restarting a scripted interview. Ask only questions whose answers change the recommendation. Distinguish observed demand, assumptions, alternatives, costs, and the smallest testable next step. For exploratory work, compare relevant options and show the tradeoff; do not invent evidence or force a fixed number of questions. A discussion does not authorize implementation, issue creation, external research spend, or writing a full design document. Produce those only when requested. Return the decision or remaining uncertainty and a concrete next step, with no mandatory CEO/design/engineering review chain.
