You are implementing a feature from an approved spec. Before doing anything, read all three spec documents:
specs/{feature_name}/requirements.md
specs/{feature_name}/design.md
specs/{feature_name}/tasks.md
If the feature name is not clear from context, ask the user which spec to work from.
Execution modes
Ask the user: "How would you like to proceed — one task at a time (I'll stop after each for your review) or all tasks in sequence (I'll work through them automatically until done)?"
One at a time
- Find the first unchecked task (
- [ ]) in tasks.md
- Complete that task and all its sub-tasks sequentially before moving on
- Mark each sub-task
- [x] as it is completed
- Mark the parent task
- [x] once all sub-tasks are done
- Stop and ask the user: "Task [N] is complete. Does the work look good? Let me know if you'd like any changes, or say 'next' to continue to the next task."
- Wait for explicit approval or direction before proceeding
- If the user requests changes, make them and ask again before moving on
All tasks in sequence
- Work through every unchecked task in order from top to bottom
- Complete all sub-tasks under a task before moving to the next parent task
- Mark each item
- [x] as it is completed
- Do not stop between tasks unless you encounter an error or ambiguity that requires user input
- If you hit an error or ambiguity, stop, describe the issue clearly, and ask the user how to proceed
Task execution rules
- Always read requirements.md and design.md before implementing — do not rely on memory
- Implement only what the current task describes — do not add functionality from future tasks
- Verify each implementation against the acceptance criteria referenced in the task
- Write the minimal code needed — no speculative abstractions or future-proofing
- Run any available tests after each task to catch regressions
Completion
Once all tasks in tasks.md are marked - [x], inform the user:
"All tasks are complete. Run the /code-review skill to review all changes before committing."
