| name | diff-review |
| description | Creates an interactive PR/diff review tool — a side-by-side HTML viewer with line-by-line inline commenting, hunk approve/reject, and a JointJS call graph showing what changed and what depends on it. Use when the user asks to review a diff, review a PR, review code changes, visualize a pull request, or see a code review with call graph. Examples: 'review this PR', 'show me what changed in this diff', 'create a code review tool', 'build a PR reviewer with call graph', 'visualize what functions changed'. |
Diff Review Playground
A hybrid tool combining a traditional HTML diff viewer with a JointJS call/control-flow graph. Unlike the canvas-builder tools, there is no drag-and-drop sidebar — the JointJS graph is used purely for visualization of function relationships, not composition.
How to use this skill
- Identify the code under review — extract or accept the user's diff, file list, and changed functions
- Load the template from
templates/diff-review.md — it defines the two-panel layout, hunk navigation, inline commenting system, approve/reject state, and JointJS call graph wiring
- Pre-populate with real content from the user's diff or a representative example (real function names, real file paths, real change summaries)
- Write the single HTML file — filename convention:
<subject>-diff-review.html (e.g. auth-diff-review.html, payment-diff-review.html)
- Open in browser — run
open <filename>-diff-review.html after writing
What makes this skill distinct
| Feature | Canvas Builder | Diff Review |
|---|
| JointJS purpose | Composition (drag nodes to build) | Visualization (show call graph) |
| Sidebar | Yes — draggable items | No |
| Pre-populated data | Example nodes/links via populateExample() | Hardcoded diff hunks + graph from user's code |
| Output panel | Generated artifact (SQL, regex, etc.) | Inline comments + approve/reject summary |
| Node creation | User drags from sidebar | Programmatic only |
Layout
[File tabs] [Hunk nav pills]
[Diff panel 55%] | [JointJS call graph 45%]
[Status bar: N hunks · N approved · N pending]
Key patterns
Hunk state machine
const hunkState = {};
const lineComments = {};
Bidirectional linking (diff ↔ graph)
- Graph → Diff:
paper.on('element:pointerclick', view => scrollToHunk(view.model.get('funcId')))
- Diff → Graph: hunk header
⬡ funcName link calls selectGraphNode(funcId) which sets selRing visibility
JointJS node types
FuncNode: function node with header (change type: added/modified/removed), selRing for selection highlight, border color by change type
CallEdge: directed link, dashed green stroke for isNew: true edges (new call sites introduced by the diff)
Filter pills
- All — show entire call graph
- Changed only — only nodes with
change !== 'unchanged'
- Callers — changed nodes + their direct callers
Router toggle
Always include the router pills (Direct / Orthogonal / Manhattan / Metro / One Side) via buildToolbar() pattern from canvas-builder/templates/canvas-builder.md.
Inline comment flow
click line → show textarea → submit → push to lineComments[key] → re-render hunk
Pitfalls
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|
Using mousemove/mouseup for pan | Use pointermove/pointerup (pointer events) |
| RAF animation for zoom | Direct paper.scale() call on wheel event |
Forgetting to call applyRouter() after buildGraph() | Always end buildGraph() with applyRouter(_activeRouter) |
| Inline comment textarea losing state on hunk re-render | Store comments in lineComments object, re-render from state |
| Graph and diff getting out of sync | Use a single funcId string as the shared key for both systems |
Quick reference
- Output: single self-contained HTML file (all JS/CSS inline, JointJS from CDN)
- CDN:
https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/@joint/core@4.2.4/dist/joint.min.js
- Layout:
[Diff panel 55%] | [JointJS graph 45%] + file tabs + hunk nav + status bar
- JointJS usage: visualization only (no drag-drop, no sidebar, no output generation)
- Filename convention:
<subject>-diff-review.html — e.g. auth-diff-review.html, checkout-diff-review.html
