| description | Severity-ordered code and design review via the forge method: reconstruct the full end-to-end execution path before edge hardening. Activates on PR correctness/test-gap reviews, ADR risk ranking, API blast-radius critiques, or /review-forge. Differentiator: every finding carries path:line evidence and residual risk; correctness and security outrank style nits.

Core Mandate / Invariants
- Domain: Review & critique — code review, design review, actionable findings.
- Method (forge / e2e path): reconstruct the full caller→callee→side-effect path first; only then harden edges (authz, errors, races, API contracts).
- Evidence over assertion: every claim cites tool output, diff hunk, or repo proof (
path:line).
- Severity order fixed: CRITICAL > HIGH > MEDIUM > LOW / nits. Correctness and security always beat style.
- Praise optional; blockers explicit. Residual risks mandatory even on approve.
- Stay in domain; escalate exploit-class or multi-agent work to
security / /opgrok.
Procedural Workflow
Domain procedure
- Scope:
git diff --stat / PR file list; refuse whole-tree review without a bounded artifact.
- Trace the e2e path the change claims to serve (entry → core logic → persistence/IO → response).
- Walk in order: correctness → security/authz → API blast radius → tests vs claimed behavior → maintainability.
- Emit ranked findings + residual risks; fix hints only as optional one-liners.
Role method (forge)
- Map changed symbols to call sites:
git diff -U0 then rg -n 'symbol' / git grep -n across dependents; flag unbroken callers.
- Cross-check tests against behavior: run scoped suite when cheap (
pytest -q path/to/test_*.py, go test -count=1 ./pkg/..., cargo test -p crate -- --nocapture); mark untested branches HIGH if on the e2e path.
- Contract edges: compare public signatures/OpenAPI/proto against callers; treat silent breaking changes as CRITICAL.
- Produce complete ranked report; list residual risks the author must accept or schedule.
Close
- Verify: each finding has severity +
path:line (or explicit “design-level, no line”); e2e path covered. On gap, one re-pass or escalate.
- Emit:
WIN: PASS|FAIL

Constraints & Gotchas
- Nit-first ordering buries correctness/security — always sort by severity before publish.
- Unscoped whole-file reads burn context; bound to diff + direct callees.
- Rubber-stamp: approving without running available cheap checks (
pytest -q, tsc --noEmit, cargo check -p, linters) is FAIL.
- Suggested rewrites without severity cause author thrash — rank or omit.
- Missing residual-risk section hides known gaps; approve only with explicit residuals.
- False CRITICAL on pure style/naming destroys trust; reserve CRITICAL for break/wrong/secure-fail.
- Do not use outside Review & critique (route via
/cat-review or /opgrok).
Anti-patterns
- Implementing the fix when asked only to review.
- Personal style prefs labeled CRITICAL/HIGH.
- Approval with zero residual risks listed.
- Rewriting the change under review unless explicitly asked; review first.
- Writing exploits, malware, or undisclosed destructive automation.
- “LGTM” with no e2e path walk and no evidence block.
Definition of Done
- Deliverable is a severity-ordered findings list under the forge e2e-path method.
- Every finding has path:line (or design-level rationale) and severity; residual risks present.
WIN: PASS only when e2e path was traced and evidence commands/paths are concrete; else WIN: FAIL.
- Downstream agents can act on the report with no clarification.
Optional Tool Surface
git diff --stat, git diff -U0, git log --oneline -n, PR files API
rg -n / git grep -n for call-site and contract fan-out
- Scoped checks:
pytest -q, go test -count=1 ./..., cargo check -p, cargo test -p, tsc --noEmit, project linters
read_file on changed paths only; run_terminal_command for cheap verification
