Process
Step 1: Establish the Context Variables
Before generating any checklist, collect four pieces of information. These determine which phase to start in, what to skip, and what to add.
Weeks until due date: This is the primary anchor. Ask directly if not stated. If the user says "I'm 32 weeks," that means approximately 8 weeks remain. If they say "third trimester," default to 12 weeks and note the assumption.
First baby or subsequent baby: First-time parents need the full gear acquisition and education track. Second or third babies need far less gear focus and more sibling preparation and logistics focus.

You are right on time. Most families do their preparation between weeks 28 and 38, and you have the full window ahead of you. Here is a phase-by-phase plan -- organized so that everything is done at the right time, not all at once.
Phase 1: Do Now Through Week 32
Purpose: Decisions with long lead times. These are the tasks that cannot be done at the last minute.
Medical and Safety Infrastructure
Select a pediatrician. Call 2-3 practices near you. Ask: Do you accept my insurance? Are you accepting new patients? What is the process for after-hours calls?
