Core Theory

Quantum Energy Resolution Limit

The minimum detectable energy change for any magnetic sensor is bounded by:

$$\Delta E_{\text{min}} \approx \hbar \cdot \Delta f$$

where $\Delta f$ is the measurement bandwidth and $\hbar$ is the reduced Planck constant.

Metabolic Power Constraint

Where $f_{\text{min}}$ is the minimum resolvable frequency and $\text{SNR}_{\text{max}}$ is the maximum achievable signal-to-noise ratio set by metabolic constraints.

Step 2: Angular Bandwidth Limit

The measurable magnetic field has finite angular bandwidth:

• Maximum spherical harmonic degree $\ell_{\text{max}}$ depends on sensor distance and quantum noise
• Higher $\ell$ modes fall below quantum-limited noise floor
• This limits the spatial complexity of detectable neural current patterns

Step 3: Spatio-Temporal Bandwidth Product

The total information capacity is constrained by: $$C \leq (\text{temporal bandwidth}) \times (\text{spatial bandwidth}) \times \log_2(\text{SNR})$$

Since quantum noise variance grows linearly with bandwidth, increasing temporal bandwidth forces spatial bandwidth reduction.
