plan-course-registration
Treat the catalog, degree audit, and current schedule as constraints. Preserve room for the student's learning goals and real capacity.
Procedure
- Obtain the current catalog, degree audit, program rules, registration window, holds, and advisor guidance.
- List unmet requirements, prerequisites, co-requisites, sequencing, minimum grades, residency rules, and time-sensitive offerings.
- Capture the student's goals, workload capacity, work or care commitments, accessibility needs, and preferred learning conditions.
- Build candidate schedules with section times, credits, locations, travel, exam conflicts, and realistic weekly workload.
- Check every prerequisite and requirement against the authoritative current source.
- Rank courses by sequencing risk, scarcity, necessity, and preference.
- Create at least two valid fallback schedules and waitlist or permission plans.
- Review financial-aid, visa, athletic, housing, or other enrollment-load consequences with the appropriate office when relevant.
- Register, preserve confirmation, and recheck the official schedule after changes.
Failure plan
- Do not rely on an old catalog, unofficial planner, or peer advice for binding requirements.
- Never assume an exception or transfer credit until it is documented.
- If the preferred plan exceeds realistic capacity, show the tradeoff instead of hiding overload.
- Escalate conflicting degree-audit and catalog rules to the authorized academic office.
