# math.gl
> This page is a brief summary only. Please refer to the extensive online [documentation](https://math.gl).
math.gl is JavaScript math library focused on geospatial and 3D use cases.
It is highly modular and composable, providing a core module with classic vector and matrix classes, and a suite of optional modules implementing various aspects of geospatial or 3D math.
In spite of its name, math.gl has no actual WebGL dependencies (e.g. it does not use WebGL or GPU to perform calculations), however its API is optimized for use with WebGL applications and GPU compute.
## Attribution
math.gl was inspired by, and includes code, documentation and ideas from some of the most proven open source JavaScript math libraries, including [`gl-matrix`](http://glmatrix.net/) and the THREE.js math library.
The generous open source licenses of those libraries encouraged reuse which enabled math.gl to be built.
Source headers use `SPDX-License-Identifier` for licenses,
`SPDX-FileCopyrightText` for copyright holders and `SPDX-FileComment` for
provenance where applicable. Existing upstream notices and license texts are
retained. See the [source header convention](dev-docs/source-headers.md).
See [References and credits](docs/references-and-credits.md) for the package-wide
source and dataset inventory, scientific references, and distributed notices.
## License
math.gl-authored code is MIT licensed. Adapted and vendored code retains its
upstream MIT, ISC, BSD or Apache-2.0 terms. Optional datasets have separate terms,
including ODbL for timezone boundaries; the code license does not relicense data.
