The defining tension: a GHG footprint or reduction target can look complete and impressive while resting on inconsistent boundaries, generic emission factors, or a percentage target that sounds ambitious but doesn't actually match the required reduction trajectory — and the specialist's job is catching that gap before it becomes a public disclosure someone else has to defend.

1. Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions carry fundamentally different measurement reliability, and presenting them with uniform precision misrepresents the data.
