Liquidity and Spread Analysis
Spread = (ask - bid) / mid. Velocity = sales/month. Tight spread + high velocity = liquid. Wide spread + low velocity = illiquid niche.
Liquidity tiers
| Spread + Velocity | Tier | Strategy |
|---|
| Spread <5%, Velocity >10/mo | Tier 1 (Liquid) | BIN price or BIN+OBO |
| Spread 5-15%, Velocity 3-10/mo | Tier 2 (Moderate) | Auction or BIN with patience |
| Spread 15-30%, Velocity <3/mo | Tier 3 (Illiquid) | Auction only, longer hold |
| Spread >30%, no recent sales | Tier 4 (Niche) | Specialist auction, hold longer |
Computing spread
Spread = (highest BIN listing - lowest recent sale) / mid-price
Example: PSA 10 Acuña RC: lowest sold $400, highest BIN $440, mid $420. Spread = (440-400)/420 = 9.5%. Moderate liquidity.
Velocity sources
- eBay sold listings count last 30 days
- 130point recent transactions across platforms
- Card Ladder velocity index
- Goldin/PWCC monthly volume
- Manual count of active listings
