Input Handling

You will receive one of two types of input:

1. Direct invocation — User runs /trade technical <TICKER>. You must gather all data yourself via WebSearch.
2. Subagent invocation — The trade-analyze orchestrator passes you a DISCOVERY_BRIEF containing pre-gathered data. Use this as your starting point and supplement with additional WebSearch queries as needed.

In both cases, extract the TICKER symbol and proceed with the full analysis below.

Data Gathering

Use WebSearch to find technical data for TICKER. You need the following data points. Run multiple searches to gather them all.

Search 1 — Price & Moving Averages Query: "<TICKER> stock technical analysis moving averages EMA 2026" Gather:

• Current price and today's change
• 20-day EMA (or SMA if EMA unavailable)
• 50-day EMA
• 200-day EMA
• Price position relative to each MA (above/below, distance %)
• Recent crossovers (golden cross, death cross)

Search 2 — Technical Indicators Query: "<TICKER> stock RSI MACD stochastic indicators" Gather:

• RSI (14-period): current value
• MACD: MACD line, signal line, histogram value and direction
• Stochastic oscillator: %K and %D values
• Bollinger Bands: upper, middle, lower band values, bandwidth, squeeze status
• Average True Range (ATR)

Search 3 — Volume & Accumulation Query: "<TICKER> stock volume analysis accumulation distribution" Gather:

• Current daily volume
• 20-day average volume
• 50-day average volume
• Volume trend (increasing/decreasing/flat)
• Any volume spikes in the past 10 sessions
• On-Balance Volume (OBV) direction if available
• Accumulation/Distribution line direction if available

Search 4 — Support, Resistance & Chart Patterns Query: "<TICKER> stock support resistance levels chart pattern 2026" Gather:

• Key support levels (at least 3)
• Key resistance levels (at least 3)
• Active chart patterns (flags, wedges, triangles, head & shoulders, double tops/bottoms, cup & handle, ascending/descending channels)
• 52-week high and low
• Fibonacci retracement levels from the most recent significant swing

Search 5 — Relative Strength Query: "<TICKER> stock performance vs S&P 500 relative strength" Gather:

• 1-month performance vs SPY
• 3-month performance vs SPY
• 6-month performance vs SPY
• Sector performance comparison
• Is the stock leading or lagging its sector?

Analysis Framework

After gathering data, analyze each dimension thoroughly.

1. Trend Analysis

Determine the primary trend by evaluating:

Moving Average Alignment (EMA Stack)

• Bullish alignment: Price > EMA 20 > EMA 50 > EMA 200 (all rising)
• Bearish alignment: Price < EMA 20 < EMA 50 < EMA 200 (all falling)
• Mixed: MAs are tangled or diverging — trend is unclear or transitioning

Price Structure

• Bullish: Higher highs and higher lows on the daily chart
• Bearish: Lower highs and lower lows on the daily chart
• Range-bound: Price oscillating between clear support and resistance

Trend Strength Assessment

• Strong trend: Price making consistent new highs/lows with volume confirmation
• Moderate trend: Trend intact but showing signs of deceleration (narrowing range, declining volume)
• Weak/Exhausting trend: Divergences present, volume declining, momentum fading

Assign a Trend classification: Strong Uptrend / Uptrend / Neutral / Downtrend / Strong Downtrend

2. Support & Resistance Levels

Identify at least 3 support and 3 resistance levels. For each level, note:

• The price level
• Why it matters (prior high/low, moving average, Fibonacci level, volume node, round number)
• Strength rating (Strong / Moderate / Weak) based on number of touches and recency
• Whether the level is ascending, descending, or horizontal

Confluence Zones: Identify where multiple support or resistance factors overlap (e.g., a Fibonacci level that coincides with a moving average and prior swing low). These are the highest-probability levels.

3. Momentum Indicators

RSI (Relative Strength Index, 14-period)

• Current value and interpretation:

  • Below 30: Oversold — potential bounce setup
• RSI trend: Is RSI making higher lows (bullish) or lower highs (bearish)?

• Recent crossovers (bullish crossover = MACD crosses above signal, bearish = below)

Stochastic Oscillator (%K / %D)

• Current position in the 0-100 range
• Overbought (above 80) or oversold (below 20) status
• %K/%D crossover signals
• Divergences from price

Combined Momentum Assessment: Synthesize all three indicators into a single momentum verdict:

• All three bullish = Strong Bullish Momentum
• Two bullish, one neutral/bearish = Bullish Momentum
• Mixed signals = Neutral Momentum
• Two bearish, one neutral/bullish = Bearish Momentum
• All three bearish = Strong Bearish Momentum

4. Volume Analysis

Volume vs Average

• Compare current volume to 20-day and 50-day averages
• Above-average volume on up days = accumulation (bullish)
• Above-average volume on down days = distribution (bearish)
• Below-average volume on the current move = lack of conviction (caution)

On-Balance Volume (OBV)

• OBV rising = accumulation, even if price is flat (bullish divergence)
• OBV falling = distribution, even if price is flat (bearish divergence)
• OBV confirming price = trend is healthy

Volume Pattern Assessment

• Climax volume (extremely high): Often marks turning points
• Dry-up volume (extremely low): Often precedes breakouts
• Volume expansion on breakout: Confirms the move
• Volume contraction in consolidation: Normal, healthy base building

Volume Verdict: Accumulation / Distribution / Neutral / Inconclusive

5. Chart Patterns

Identify any active or recently completed chart patterns. For each pattern found:

• Cup and handle (continuation)
• Inverse head and shoulders (reversal)
• Double bottom / triple bottom (reversal)
• Ascending triangle (continuation)

Bearish Patterns to Look For:

• Bear flag / pennant (continuation)
• Head and shoulders (reversal)
• Double top / triple top (reversal)
• Descending triangle (continuation)
• Rising wedge (reversal)
• Distribution dome / rounding top

For each pattern, document:

• Pattern name and type (continuation vs reversal)
• Completion percentage (how far along is the pattern?)
• Breakout/breakdown level
• Measured move target (pattern height projected from breakout)
• Volume characteristics (does volume confirm the pattern?)

If no clear patterns are present, state that the chart is in a "no pattern" or "base building" phase.

6. Bollinger Band Analysis

• Current price position within the bands (upper, middle, lower)
• Bandwidth: Expanding (volatility increasing) or contracting (squeeze forming)
• Bollinger Band squeeze: When bands are at their narrowest in 6+ months, a major move is imminent
• Band walk: Price riding the upper band (strong uptrend) or lower band (strong downtrend)
• Mean reversion signals: Price at extreme bands with momentum divergence

7. Relative Strength vs SPY

Compare the stock's performance against the S&P 500:
