HGA Grading System
HGA (Hybrid Grading Approach) issues color-coded labels and sub-grades. Tiny market share — discourage submission unless customer specifically wants HGA label aesthetic.
HGA distinctives
- Color-coded label by card type (red sports, blue Pokemon, etc.)
- 4 sub-grades + overall (similar to BGS)
- Smaller pop = small auction value
- ~2-week TAT, competitive fees
Why we usually decline HGA
- Resale value: HGA 10 sells at ~0.3-0.5× PSA 10
- Limited auction house support — most don't promote HGA titles
- Customer often unaware of liquidity penalty
- Slab integrity historically variable
When HGA is correct
Only when: (a) customer collects HGA labels specifically; (b) submission is for personal collection not resale; (c) card has thin PSA pop AND customer wants any slab.
Where this fits in the X3 empire
Defensive skill — recognize HGA in comps but warn before recommending submission.
