Semantic GIF search for conversational reactions. Finds the right GIF for the moment based on emotional context, not keyword matching.
When to use
- Celebrations — user shipped something, passed a test, got good news
- Reactions — surprise, disbelief, agreement, disagreement
- Humor — a joke lands, something absurd happens, sarcasm is warranted
- Emotional punctuation — empathy, encouragement, commiseration
- Palate cleanser — a long technical conversation needs a breather
Good heuristic: if a friend would send a GIF in this moment, you should too.
When NOT to use
- Serious topics — bad news, sensitive personal matters, conflict
- Detailed technical questions — the user needs a real answer, not a reaction
- Rapid-fire conversation — don't interrupt flow with a GIF every message
- When tone is ambiguous — if you're not sure the GIF will land, skip it

Seed the local database with GIFs for a given emotional category. Use this if search_gif returns no results.
mcp__vibebase__ingest_category(category: string, limit?: number)
category — An emotional category or search term. Good seed categories: celebration, reaction, confused, excited, awkward, sarcastic.
limit — Number of GIFs to fetch (default: 5).
Empty database
If search_gif returns no results, the database is likely empty. Ingest a few common categories first:
- Call
ingest_category for 2-3 relevant categories (e.g. celebration, reaction, excited)
- Retry your
search_gif call
Tone
Use GIFs sparingly — they hit harder when they're not constant. One well-placed GIF is worth more than five mediocre ones.
