1. Verify the work order and drawing revision at the workstation match the current released revision before starting — an outdated drawing driving an entire work order is a common source of a whole lot's nonconformance.

5. If a nonconformance is found, stop and document it rather than attempting an unauthorized field fix; route it to Material Review Board (MRB) or engineering for disposition.

Naive read: since a larger bolt is available in the bin and would physically fill the hole and hold the joint, the technician installs the next oversize NAS6 designation (1/64" oversize, 0.3906" nominal) without paperwork, reasoning that a bigger fastener is at least as strong.

Expert approach: the hole is out of drawing tolerance, which is a nonconformance regardless of whether an oversize fastener would physically fit — a field substitution breaks configuration control on fatigue-critical primary structure, and an oversize bolt also changes the minimum edge distance requirement (typically ≥2x fastener diameter, so 0.750" minimum from the spar cap flange for even the nominal 3/8" bolt), which hasn't been re-verified for the larger size. Write up an NCR citing the exact measured deviation and route to MRB rather than resolving it in place.
