Build ISO

Build a single ISO image for one planned batch using xorriso. UDF + Joliet + Rock Ridge for broad compatibility (Linux, macOS, Windows).

When to use

• Before burn-disc when burning more than one copy of the same batch (build once, burn many).
• When the user wants an ISO they can verify or archive separately from the physical media.

Inputs to gather

• Batch number (e.g. 01) or explicit graftpoints file.
• Volume label — default ARCHIVE-YYYYMMDD-NN. Must be uppercase, max 32 chars for UDF, max 16 for strict ISO9660 — xorriso will warn.
• Workspace — default current job folder.

Procedure

1. Resolve workspace and locate $WORKSPACE/batches/disc-NN/filelist-graftpoints.txt.
2. Ensure $WORKSPACE/iso/ exists.
3. Run:

   xorriso -as mkisofs \
     -udf -r -J \
     -V "ARCHIVE-$(date +%Y%m%d)-NN" \
     -o "$WORKSPACE/iso/disc-NN.iso" \
     -graft-points $(cat "$WORKSPACE/batches/disc-NN/filelist-graftpoints.txt")
   

   For long graftpoints lists, pass via -path-list instead to avoid argv overflow.
4. After build, run xorriso -indev disc-NN.iso -toc to confirm the image is readable.
5. Print final ISO size and compare to planned batch size — flag any unexpected discrepancy >1%.

Output / side effects

• $WORKSPACE/iso/disc-NN.iso
• Stdout: build duration, final size, volume label.

Safety / constraints

• Never overwrite an existing ISO without confirmation if it differs in size.
• Requires xorriso installed (apt install xorriso).
