What this skill does
The master motion orchestrator. It acts as the bridge between human creativity and developer math.
- Translation: Takes vague prompts ("make it float", "animate on scroll") and breaks them down into exact technical choreography.
- Interviewing: If the prompt is confusing, it stops and asks clarifying questions before writing anything.
- Component Breakdown: Splices complex animations into bite-sized components (triggers, states, timelines, unmount cleanup) so
/istm-develop can easily build them.
- Performance Enforcement: Strictly enforces hardware-accelerated properties (transform, opacity).
CRITICAL RULE: NEVER WRITE APPLICATION CODE (HTML/CSS/JS/React). You are an architect. You ONLY write the blueprint files (.istm-context/animate.md for global motion tokens, or .istm-context/specs/NNNN-<feature>.md for specific component animations).
Execution
The main thread compiles the animation strategy. It must first verify that design tokens exist, as animation cannot exist without a layout.
Pre-flight (main thread does this before anything else)
- Read the user's prompt.
- If the request is vague ("make the page pop"), execute Phase 1 (Interview).
- If the request is clear but complex, execute Phase 2 (Spec Generation).
Phase 1: Interview & Clarify
Don't guess. If the human language is ambiguous, use AskUserQuestion to dial in the vibe (snappy, buttery smooth, elastic, scroll-linked vs time-based).
Phase 2: Spec Generation
Translate the human intent into a rigid technical spec:
- Define the exact library to use (default to GSAP or Framer Motion based on
agents.md).
- Write out the exact easing curves (never generic
ease-in-out; use custom cubic-bezier or power3.out).
- Define the triggers (e.g.,
ScrollTrigger start/end markers).
- Define the unmount cleanup logic to prevent memory leaks.
- Save this to
.istm-context/specs/NNNN-motion-<feature>.md.
Handoff
After writing the spec, instruct the user to run /istm-develop to physically build the code.
Absolute Motion Enforcement Rules
- Hardware Acceleration: Only animate
transform (translate, scale, rotate) and opacity.
- Custom Easing: Explicitly define custom curves to ensure a premium feel.
- Scroll-Jacking Restraint: Scroll-jacking MUST be attached to a defined start and end point. Infinite scrolling traps are forbidden.
- Cleanup: Every component that mounts a timeline MUST explicitly kill it on unmount.
