Core Rule

Write a self-contained abstract that states why the study was done, how it was done, what it found, and what the findings support. Do not add claims that are absent from the Results.

Read references/source-guide.md when source-derived abstract rules are needed.

Workflow

1. Identify the required format: structured, unstructured, graphical abstract text, or journal-specific headings.
2. Extract objective, design, setting/data source, participants, exposure/intervention, outcomes, analysis, key results, and conclusion.
3. Draft in this order: Background/Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusions.
4. Include exact effect estimates, confidence intervals, p values, and sample size when available.
5. Trim background and keep the conclusion proportional to the evidence.
6. Check that every major numerical claim appears in the manuscript or supplied results.

Rules

• Use past tense for Methods and Results.
• Avoid citations, undefined abbreviations, figure/table references, and detailed limitations unless required.
• Report negative and null findings if central to the objective.
• Do not claim clinical, policy, or mechanistic implications beyond the study evidence.
