Source Quality Policy
This skill exists to protect product judgement. ReCast should not treat all search results as equal.
Source tiers
official_fact
Use for claims that require high confidence:
- product or model release
- version number
- changelog
- pricing
- availability
- official policy or safety rule
- official technical explanation
This tier normally requires an official product/company/documentation domain, or a domain explicitly constrained by the research plan.
third_party_report
Use for:
- reported industry context
- media coverage
- analyst interpretation
- benchmark summaries not published by the vendor
This tier can justify why a topic is worth revisiting, but cannot alone prove official product facts.
community_signal
Use for:
- user pain
- controversy
- emerging usage behavior
- anecdotal reports
- creator/community demand
This tier can prove that people are discussing something. It cannot prove that a model version, policy, or product update is real.
unverified_claim
Use for weak or ambiguous sources:
- SEO summaries
- reposts without primary links
- unknown blogs
- scraped snippets
- sources that do not match the evidence need
Do not use this tier as factual support. Mention as a gap or weak signal only.
low_quality_excluded
Use for sources that should be excluded from factual reasoning:
- low-signal social mirrors
- image-only/social feeds with no verifiable context
- irrelevant aggregator pages
Decision rule
Before writing a finding, ask:
- What claim type am I making?
- Which source tier supports it?
- Is that tier allowed to support this claim type?
- If not, downgrade the claim into a caveat, gap, or community signal.
Product rule
The final task card can use weak sources to motivate investigation, but it must not present weak sources as established truth.
