# Cleaning System Designer ## When to Use **Use this skill when:** - User asks about cleaning system - User needs guidance on cleaning system topics - User wants a structured approach to cleaning system **Do NOT use when:** - Request requires professional consultation beyond educational guidance - User needs emergency assistance ## Questions to Ask the User First 1. **How many people live in your home?** (Adults, children, pets -- all generate different messes) 2. **Home size?** (Rooms, square footage, number of bathrooms) 3. **What's your current cleaning situation?** (Regular routine, sporadic, overwhelmed, starting from scratch) 4. **How much time can you dedicate daily?** (15 min, 30 min, 1 hour) 5. **Are there specific problem areas?** (Kitchen always messy, bathrooms need help, etc.) 6. **Who will participate in cleaning?** (Just you, partner, whole family, cleaning service for some tasks) 7. **Cleaning product preferences?** (Commercial, natural/DIY, fragrance-free, specific brands) 8. **Any health considerations?** (Allergies, asthma, chemical sensitivities, physical limitations) 9. **Pets?** (Type, shedding level, indoor/outdoor) 10. **Flooring types?** (Hardwood, carpet, tile, laminate -- affects cleaning methods) 11. **Current cleaning supplies you own?** ## Cleaning Product Guide ### Essential Cleaning Products ``` MINIMAL CLEANING KIT (you need less than you think): COMMERCIAL KIT: [ ] All-purpose cleaner (counters, surfaces, general cleaning) [ ] Glass cleaner (mirrors, windows) [ ] Bathroom cleaner (tub, tile, toilet) [ ] Dish soap (dishes + many other uses) [ ] Disinfectant spray or wipes (for when disinfection is needed) [ ] Floor cleaner appropriate for your floor type [ ] Toilet bowl cleaner [ ] Baking soda (deodorizer, gentle abrasive) [ ] White vinegar (descaler, all-purpose) [ ] Hydrogen peroxide (3%, stain removal, disinfection) TOOLS: [ ] Microfiber cloths (10-12, color-coded: see below) [ ] Scrub brush [ ] Toilet brush (one per bathroom) [ ] Broom and dustpan (or stick vacuum for hard floors) [ ] Vacuum cleaner [ ] Mop (flat microfiber mop recommended over string mop) [ ] Bucket [ ] Spray bottles (3-4 for DIY cleaners) [ ] Rubber gloves [ ] Duster (microfiber or lambswool) [ ] Caddy to carry supplies room to room COLOR-CODED MICROFIBER SYSTEM: Blue: Glass and mirrors Green: Kitchen surfaces Yellow: Bathroom surfaces Red: Toilet only (never use elsewhere) White: General/multi-purpose, dusting This prevents cross-contamination between rooms. ``` ### DIY Natural Cleaner Recipes ``` ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER: 1 cup water 1 cup white vinegar 10-15 drops essential oil (optional: lemon, tea tree, lavender) Combine in spray bottle. Shake before use. Use on: counters, appliances, tile, glass, most surfaces GLASS CLEANER: 1 cup water 1 cup rubbing alcohol (or white vinegar) 1 tablespoon white vinegar Combine in spray bottle. Spray, wipe with lint-free cloth or newspaper. BATHROOM SCRUB: 1/2 cup baking soda Enough dish soap to make a paste 10 drops tea tree oil (natural antifungal) Apply to tub, tile, grout. GRANITE/STONE CLEANER: 2 cups water 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol 3 drops dish soap Spray and wipe. Vinegar is too acidic for stone. STAINLESS STEEL: Wipe with damp microfiber cloth in the direction of the grain. Polish with a few drops of mineral oil on clean cloth. Start with ceiling fans, then shelves, then counters, then floors. Never clean floors first. RULE 2: WORK LEFT TO RIGHT Pick a starting point and work around the room in one direction. You won't miss anything and won't backtrack. RULE 3: WORK DRY TO WET Dust first, then spray and wipe. Dry dusting before wet cleaning prevents mud streaks. RULE 4: LET PRODUCTS DO THE WORK Spray surfaces and move on. Come back to wipe after the product has had 2-5 minutes to dissolve grime. Don't scrub immediately. RULE 5: CARRY YOUR SUPPLIES Every trip costs time. RULE 6: TWO-CLOTH SYSTEM One damp cloth for wiping, one dry cloth for polishing/drying. Or: spray and wipe with microfiber (usually sufficient). RULE 7: MINIMIZE TRIPS Take a trash bag with you. Collect all trash in one pass. Carry a "put away" basket for items that go in other rooms. Distribute items to their homes at the end, not mid-clean. ``` ### Room Speed Clean Protocols ``` BATHROOM SPEED CLEAN (8-10 minutes): 0:00 - Spray toilet bowl cleaner inside bowl, let sit 0:30 - Spray all surfaces: counter, mirror, tub, fixtures 1:00 - Wipe mirror (dry microfiber or glass cloth) 1:30 - Wipe counter, faucet, and sink 2:30 - Wipe toilet exterior (top to bottom, don't skip base) 3:30 - Scrub toilet bowl with brush, flush 4:30 - Spray and wipe tub/shower (quick wipe, not deep scrub) 6:00 - Wipe fixtures and handles 7:00 - Sweep floor 8:00 - Damp mop floor 9:00 - Empty trash, replace towels 10:00 - Done!
