competitor-analysis
Understand the field so you can stake out ground only you can own.
Process
- Pick the set: direct competitors + the real alternative (incl. "do nothing" / a spreadsheet).
- Analyze each (from real, public sources - their site, ads, pricing, reviews):
- Positioning + core message, target, differentiator claimed.
- Offer/pricing model, primary channels, content/SEO presence.
- Strengths, weaknesses, and what customers praise/complain about (reviews).
- Find the gap: an underserved segment, an unmet need, a message no one owns, a channel they ignore.
- Position against it (
positioning) - don't copy the leader; differentiate.
Output
- A comparison table (positioning / offer / channels / strengths / weaknesses) + the gap and your angle.
Guardrails
- Use real, verifiable public info; mark anything unconfirmed
[verify] - don't fabricate competitor facts.
- Comparative claims about competitors must be truthful and substantiated (legal risk) -
truth-claims;
be careful using competitor trademarks in ads.
