A poorly designed tripwire burns ad cost, attracts freebie-seekers instead of buyers, and blocks ascension to mid-ticket/high-ticket.

Tacit Principles
Tripwire is an economic instrument, not a product. Its job is to liquidate ad cost, build buyer list, install buying habit. Product utility is secondary.
Price is the buyer filter. $7 filters out obvious non-buyers. $47 filters out casual browsers. $97 filters out tire-kickers. Low price = poor filter.
Consume before pitching. Phase 2 (Days 1-3) is pure value. Pitching immediately = buyer feels baited.
Order bump > upsell when possible. Single-checkbox bump converts at 50-70% vs post-purchase upsell at 20-30%. Design the bump first.
Ascension economics matter more than tripwire economics. A tripwire that loses $5 per sale but ascends 20% to $2K core offer is vastly more profitable than a tripwire that makes $30 per sale but has zero ascension.
Refund rate is quality signal. Refund rate >10% = tripwire quality doesn't match price promise. Refund rate <3% = tripwire is doing its job.
The tripwire sells the mechanism. Within the tripwire content, the creator teaches a piece of the unique mechanism. Buyer becomes aware of the mechanism -> primed for ascension to the full offer that delivers the full mechanism.
Cold traffic pays for tripwires; warm traffic pays for core offers. Split ad accounts by funnel purpose.
The ascension sequence is the compounding asset. A well-built 90-day ascension sequence compounds tripwire LTV from $30 to $300+ per buyer. That's where the real margin lives.
