# Scheduling maintenance Every planned job competes with production. Schedule against the plan, not against the calendar. ## Rank by consequence Statutory and safety-critical inspections first — these have dates, not priorities. Then by what failure would cost: a single point of failure with no spare outranks a redundant unit, whatever its due date says. ## Fit the window Match each job's duration and isolation requirement against planned downtime, changeovers and shift patterns. A four-hour job into a two-hour window becomes an overrun, which is how planned maintenance loses its slot permanently. ## Check before scheduling Parts in stock or on a confirmed date · the skill available on that shift · permits and isolations arranged · whether two jobs need the same isolation and can be combined. ## Flag Anything overdue against a statutory interval, anything deferred more than twice, and any asset whose reactive work is outgrowing its planned work. ## Never Schedule without confirming parts, or defer a statutory inspection.
