3. Break major assessments into research, drafting, practice, feedback, revision, and submission stages.
4. Estimate effort from past evidence and course guidance, then add uncertainty for unfamiliar work.
5. Identify deadline clusters, prerequisite tasks, group dependencies, and weeks where demand exceeds available capacity.
6. Move flexible work earlier, reduce optional commitments, or seek authorized adjustment before overload becomes a crisis.
7. Schedule focused blocks with specific outcomes and short review points.
8. Compare planned and actual effort weekly, revise estimates, and escalate persistent overload to an adviser or support service.

Worked example

Three assignments fall in the same week as paid work. The plan reveals that completing every draft in the final week would exceed available hours.
