Three divisions

• 4.2 Pyrophoric (ignite within 5 min of air exposure — aluminum alkyls)
• 4.3 Dangerous when wet (calcium carbide, sodium, lithium metal)

Packaging

• 4.1: Standard UN-rated
• 4.2: Hermetic, oxygen-free
• 4.3: Water-proof

Segregation

• 4.3 + water-containing materials = X
• 4.3 + Class 5.1 oxidizers = X
• Avoid shipping in rain — water cannot reach 4.3

Common materials

Calcium carbide (UN1402). Sodium (UN1428). Lithium metal (UN3091).
